College profile

The School of Music and Dance was officially established in January 2019. At the undergraduate level, it comprises three departments: Music, Dance, and Popular Music (Jinzhong Conservatory of Music). Graduate admissions fall under the first-level discipline of ""Arts"" (130100), with a research direction in ""Music and Dance Studies,"" first opened in 2012. The school currently has 63 full-time faculty members, 2 teaching assistants, including 5 professors (including 1 foreign full-time teacher), 14 associate professors, 14 doctoral degree holders, and 14 faculty members with overseas study experience. One member is included in the Guangdong ""Thousand-Hundred-Ten Talent Plan,"" and two members are part of the Shenzhen ""Peacock Plan"" for overseas high-level talents.

Currently, there are 778 undergraduate students and 19 graduate students enrolled. Teaching resources include music halls, multimedia classrooms, computer music production studios, piano rooms, dance rehearsal halls, and more.

Relying on the characteristics and advantages of each discipline within the school, a series of teaching and research platforms have been established, including: Guangdong Provincial Pop Music and Dance Training Base, Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Resource Library of Traditional Music and Dance, Shenzhen Traditional Music Culture Education Base, Shenzhen University AI Dance Research Center, Shenzhen University Musical Theatre Creation and Research Center, Shenzhen University Accordion Creation and Research Center. The school regularly hosts lectures, concerts, and various large-scale literary and artistic performances. Students have a solid theoretical foundation, strong practical abilities, and high employment rates. In recent years, the school has produced a large number of excellent music education talents for Shenzhen, making positive contributions to the cultural construction of the Division of Arts and Shenzhen University, showcasing the distinctive features of the School of Music and Dance.

In recent years, faculty members have achieved significant research results. Obtained 1 project from the National Social Science Fund for Arts, 2 projects from the China National Arts Fund, 3 projects from the Humanities and Social Sciences project of the Ministry of Education, 5 projects from the Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences and Education Department, and 22 projects from the Shenzhen Municipal Philosophy and Social Sciences and Education Planning. Additionally, faculty members have published 23 books and have published 76 papers in SCI/CSSCI core journals.
