Arts Education Achievements
The Center for Arts Education strives to integrate the national arts education development strategy with the construction and development of university art disciplines, the inheritance of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, the integration of arts education across primary, secondary, and higher education in the Greater Bay Area, the immersion of arts education in rural revitalization, and the promotion and service of arts education for the social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It seeks to explore arts education resources through multiple channels, forming university arts education and artistic education achievements with Greater Bay Area characteristics and the unique qualities of Shenzhen University.
I. Focusing on Research in Characteristic Traditional Culture Arts Education
The center has led over 20 vertical research projects at national, provincial (ministerial), and municipal levels, including six projects funded by the National Social Science Fund. These projects mainly involve research on the comprehensive history of arts education in Chinese universities since the founding of New China, the evolution of ceiling patterns in the Mogao Caves during the Sui and Tang dynasties, the study of the transformation of calligraphy from Emperor Taizongof Tang to the seventh to tenth centuries, the preservation and inheritance of ancient Chinese ship culture, and the design and craftsmanship of traditional furniture. Additionally, the center has hosted six projects funded by the National Arts Fund, focusing on the inheritance and innovation of traditional kites, the cultivation of contemporary creative and innovative dance artists, and grants for the creation of small stage plays and works. Furthermore, team members have actively explored more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level projects, covering topics such as the cultural dissemination of linguistic arts, the innovative design and inheritance of traditional plant dyeing culture, the study and contemporary design application of ancient iron culture, and the application of intangible cultural heritage seal carving art and modern typography. Notably, aligning with Shenzhen's regional positioning and the characteristics of Shenzhen University, special attention has been paid to the research on the inheritance and development of contemporary Lingnan music creation from the perspective of cultural innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the reform and application of smart art classrooms in primary and secondary schools in the Greater Bay Area, and art education against the backdrop of red culture. The center has published over 20 related academic papers, including more than 10 articles indexed by CSSCI and SCI, and has successively published over 10 monographs and textbooks. Professor Jiang Diankun's solo work "Research on Chinese Art Education (1912-1949)" won the first prize of the "National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award."
II. Emphasizing Collaborative Development of Diverse Arts Education Platforms
The Division of Arts at Shenzhen University has established several arts education institutions and platforms, including the Shenzhen University Art Gallery, Shenzhen Museum of Modern Design, Base for the Inheritance and Innovation of Outstanding Traditional Chinese Art, Guangdong's first Arts Education Master Studio in General Undergraduate Universities, the Guangdong Traditional Music and Dance Intangible Cultural Heritage Resource Library, Shenzhen Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Shenzhen Traditional Music Cultural Education Base. These will collaborate with the Division of Arts' "Art Therapy Center," "Creative Design Center," "Exhibition Center," and "Performing Arts Center," supporting each other and fostering collaborative development to collectively build a hub for arts education practice and research in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area.
III. Enhancing the Practice and Application of Arts Education
Members of the center have received numerous accolades, including the Ministry of Education's National Language and Culture Brand Activity Excellence Case, the Gold Award at the National Competition and the Silver Award at the Provincial Competition of the "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the First Prizes in the NCDA Awardsand the Artistic Performance at the National College Student Art Exhibition, the Guangdong Graduate Education Society's Excellence Award, the Guangdong Higher Education Association's Annual Outstanding Arts Education Case for Education and Teaching Reform, the Guangdong Higher Education Arts Education Excellence Case, and the Excellence Case in the Guangdong University Student Art Exhibition;the biannual Academy Awards of Art and Design Works from Universities in the Greater Bay Area also saw our team winning the Second Prize. The "Li Yue Xian Ge" four-stringed zither, developed and designed by our team, was adopted as a sub-project research result of the major project "Innovative Development of Outstanding Traditional Chinese Culture in Textbook Construction" under the National Social Science Fund's Education category. Our "Research on the Cultural and Creative Design of Plant Dye Intangible Cultural Heritage" was selected for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's key support project for MFA graduate research. The course "Art and Life" was recognized as a top-tier online and offline undergraduate course in Guangdong Province and a Double First-Class Course at the provincial level. The calligraphy piece "Prefaceto Tengwang Pavilion" won the First Prize in the Soft Brush Category at the 2020 "HanmoXinchuan" Guangdong Teacher Calligraphy Exhibition. Additionally, our paper sculpture art won the First Prize at the National Finals of the Milan Design Week·Chinese University Design Discipline Faculty and Student Excellence Exhibition.
