On December 12, 2023, the Fashion Department of the Division of Arts at Shenzhen University successfully hosted the first AI Artificial Intelligence Innovation Design Competition and Greater Bay Area University-Enterprise Joint Wedding Dress Design Competition, marking a new milestone in the innovative application of artificial intelligence technology in the traditional wedding dress design field. This highly anticipated event was co-hosted by the Fine Arts and Design School of the Division of Arts at Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Tizhan Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Atodun AI Lab, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, and the Bay Area Metaverse Digital Art Research and Innovation Base, showcasing Shenzhen's unique charm as a hub for technological innovation.
The competition was attended by the following guests and judges: Zhang Jianbin, Secretary of the Division of Arts, Shenzhen University; Cai Weizhen, Initiator of the project and representative of Shenzhen Tizhan Digital Technology Co., Ltd.; off-campus course tutors, Benny from Atodun AI Lab, Chen Yiyun from Shenzhen T+FASHION Industry Innovation Service Platform, Luo Shuya from Shenzhen Garment Industry Association, Agnes Bao from Zhixuan International; on-campus course tutors, Professor Luo Ying, Vice Dean of the Fine Arts and Design School, Division of Arts, Zhang Lichuan, Head of the Fashion Department, Zhao Yuanfang, Deputy Head of the Fashion Department; as well as faculty members Chen Xiaosui, Qi Ji, Mai Jian, Chao Huang, and Yang Chenxiao from the Fashion Department.
The competition aimed to promote the application of AI technology in the wedding dress design field. By utilizing AI design, the event explored the trend of integrating future technology with traditional art. The competition emphasized the use of natural materials such as cotton and linen, highlighting concerns for environmental protection and sustainable development, while promoting the incorporation, application and promotion of AI tools in design.
During the project conclusion presentation and costume display held on the afternoon of the 12th, participants showcased the process from AI design concepts to completed design works. Using 3D printing and refined garment production, they successfully brought AI designs to life in tangible works. The design works demonstrated the unique creativity of Shenzhen University students, their understanding and reinterpretation of intangible cultural heritage, their exceptional imagination, their proficiency in garment pattern making and sewing, and their learning and application of AI technology and 3D design.
This was the first attempt to integrate AI technology into teaching in the Fashion Department and the first AI wedding dress design competition held in China. The core of the competition was the fusion of AI technology with traditional wedding dress design, emphasizing the use of natural materials like cotton and linen to promote sustainable development. Participants, with the help of the AI drawing software Midjourney, integrated elements of Chinese traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage into their creations, showcasing the innovative spirit of combining technology with art. The competition provided young designers with a platform to showcase the fusion of creativity and technology, while also advancing the practical application of AI in the fashion design field. This event not only offered deep insights into the integration of tradition and modernity but also marked a significant step for the Division of Arts at Shenzhen University in promoting the fusion of technology and art.
Following this showcase, the competition series will be exhibited in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macao, and other locations, allowing us to witness the talent and passion of Shenzhen University students, as they unleash their dreams and love on this stage! Let's explore the infinite possibilities of design together and shape the future of beauty and creativity with artificial intelligence!
