The Division of Arts is the largest faculty with the most complete arts disciplines among colleges and universities in Shenzhen. Founded in 2019, the Division comprises the College of Art and Design, the College of Music and Dance and the College of Theatre, Film and Television, offering 12 undergraduate programs, 6 first-tier discipline master's degree programs. The Division has an enrolment of more than 3000 undergraduate and graduate students with 176 full-time faculty members, 64 of whom are associate and full professors.

The Division is devoted to excellence in teaching, research, exhibition and performance and international exchanges. There are excellent facilities, including a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center for art design, Shenzhen University Art Museum, Shenzhen Modern Design Museum, Design Tribe, No.3 Art Studio, Shenzhen Modern Art Design Research Center, Shenzhen Traditional Music Culture Education Base, Shenzhen Musical Drama Center, Guangdong Province Pop Song and Dance Training Base and SZU Art Creation and Performance Practice Base. In addition, the Division has established partnerships with famous European and American art academies, such as the joint art class between Shenzhen and Russian Repin Academy of Fine Arts and SZU-Antwerp Overseas Study Center, SZU’s first overseas study center.

Leveraging the advantages of Shenzhen as an international metropolis and the interdisciplinary characteristics of Shenzhen University, the Division aims to provide students with a distinctive training system and an exceptional platform for research and creation, making contributions to the development of the Greater Bay Area and the building of Shenzhen into a socialist demonstration area.

There are currently 9 departments in College of Art and Design, including basic department, department of fine arts, department of clothing and apparel design, department of environmental design, department of product design, department of visual communication design, department of digital media art, department of creative planning and design management, and department of continuing education. There are 86 teachers in the college, including 13 professors, 22 associate professors, and 14 assistant professors. Most of the faculty have overseas study or work experience. Now more than 1,400 undergraduates are studying here. The institutions of the college include Shenzhen University Art Museum, Shenzhen Modern Design Museum, Design Tribe, No. 3 Art Studio, Shenzhen Modern Art Design Research Center.

 In the past five years, the discipline team has undertaken more than 60 longitudinal scientific research projects of the  national, provincial (ministerial) and municipal levels; published more than 40 monographs and textbooks,and over 260 academic papers, including more than 80 articles indexed by CSSCI and SCI.


Based on the department of music ,the department of dance and the department of pop music, the College of Music and Dance was officially found in January 2019. Established for a long time, the department of music and the department of dance have taken a leading position in related fields in Shenzhen. Although the department of pop music has been set up only for 6 years, it already has a certain social influence. There are currently 60 full-time teachers (excluding foreign teachers) and 2 teaching assistants in the college. 750 undergraduates and 19 graduates are studying here. Students enjoy fantastic facilities, including piano rooms, concert halls, multimedia classrooms, electronic musical instruments, computer music production classrooms, dance rehearsal halls, and theaters.

The college offers 1 first-tier discipline Master's degree program, musicology and dancology, which was initiated in 2012. There are 2 second-tier discipline Master's degree programs with 18 tutors, including 4 professors (including 1 full-time foreign teacher) and 10 associate professors, among whom 6 teachers have doctoral degrees and 6 teachers have overseas education background . The employment rate of postgraduate students is 100%.

Relying on the characteristics of various disciplines and the advantages of the college, a series of teaching and scientific research platforms have been built, such as  Guangdong Province Pop Song and Dance Training Base, Guangdong Province Traditional Music and Dance Intangible Cultural Heritage Resource Library, Shenzhen Traditional Music Culture Education Base, Musical Theatre Creation and Research Center and Vocal Music Association. At the same time, a series of cultural activities are regularly held, which has made contributions to the cultural construction of the Division of Arts and even Shenzhen University.

In order to build a high-level system of discipline and talent training, and to optimize resources, the Division of Arts was established in January 2019, by integrating all the art disciplines of Shenzhen University. Thus the College of Theatre, Film and Television was set up, by merging with the acting department of the former Normal College and the department of broadcasting and hosting art of the School of Communication.

There are now 19 full-time teachers in the college, including 1 professor, 5 associate professors and 7 doctors; 7 teachers have studied abroad and most of the faculty have practical experience in media and stage practice. The discipline team has won more than 20 important awards such as "National Theatre Culture Award" "Five Top Project Prize" "Qi Yue and Xia Qing Recitation Award", and undertaken more than 20 national and provincial scientific research projects, including 1 Humanities and Social Science Project of the Ministry of Education. The faculty has published more than 60 academic papers in CSSCI journals and 5 academic monographs. In 2011, the first-level discipline of theatre and film was initiated.

Based in Shenzhen, the Special Economic Zone, the College is committed to the cultivation of innovative, practical and interdisciplinary talents. To promote the teaching through competition and performance, the college strives to become a backbone force in production of acting and and broadcasting works in Shenzhen ,Guangzhou and other cities; and a key platform for professional education in South China.

In recent years, the scale of students enrolling is expanding, and the employment prospects are excellent. Graduates are recruited by media agencies such as the BBC, Phoenix Television, Hong Kong Satellite TV, Shenzhen Media group, or world famous universities. Some graduates choose to engage in language communication and publicity work in government departments or large international companies .

Riding the wave of the construction of the Greater Bay Area and the socialist demonstration area, the College will strengthen cooperation with enterprises, and build a “job-creation” platform and theatre workshops outside school, to contribute to spreading Shenzhen University's culture and art and enhancing popularity of the university.
